From DNA Matches to Research Clues
A list of DNA matches can raise more questions than it answers. How might an unfamiliar person fit into your tree? Which side of the family could a match belong to? Which connections are worth investigating first?
DNA Results Analysis examines your existing test results alongside your family tree and the information you already hold. Shared DNA amounts, shared matches and available family trees are assessed together to explore possible relationships and identify the strongest research leads.
You receive a written analysis explaining the findings, followed by a personal consultation to talk through what they mean and how to proceed. Possible connections are distinguished from established relationships, with practical recommendations for the records or further comparisons needed to test them.
What your DNA Results Analysis includes:
A Review of Your Results and Research Question
Your existing DNA results and family information are reviewed around the connection or question you want to explore, keeping the analysis focused on what matters to you.
An Assessment of Relevant Matches
Shared DNA amounts, shared matches and available family trees are examined together to identify possible relationships, patterns and leads worth investigating.
A Clearly Written Analysis
An accessible report explains the findings and the reasoning behind them. It distinguishes supported conclusions from possible connections and shows what further evidence would be needed to establish a relationship.
A Personal Consultation
A conversation to work through the analysis, ask questions and understand how the findings relate to your family research. Technical terms are explained in plain language.
Prioritised Next Steps
Practical recommendations identify the most useful records, match comparisons and research avenues to pursue, giving you a focused plan for continuing your investigation.
Your DNA Results Analysis Package
Up to 4 hours analysis, plus 60min consultation
$295
Your package combines a written analysis of your existing genealogy DNA results with a personal consultation. Before work begins, we agree on the question you want to explore and the results and family information available to investigate it.
The analysis brings shared DNA amounts, shared matches and relevant family trees together into a clear explanation of possible connections. Your consultation gives you time to discuss the findings, ask questions and understand which next steps are most likely to move your research forward.
This service uses an existing DNA test; purchasing or processing a test is not included. It focuses on family-history research, not medical interpretation or legal proof of parentage. Any further research or additional costs are discussed and approved separately.
Understand Findings, Plan Next Steps
Your written analysis gives you time to consider the findings before your one-hour consultation. Together, we work through the relevant matches, possible relationships and the evidence needed to investigate them further.
Ask questions, explore unfamiliar terms and discuss which leads deserve your attention. You leave with a clearer understanding of your results and a practical plan for continuing your family-history research.
Your Questions, Answered
-
Your package includes up to four hours of results review, analysis and report preparation, followed by a one-hour personal consultation.
You receive a written analysis explaining the relevant matches, possible relationships and the evidence behind the findings, together with prioritised recommendations for further research. The work focuses on one agreed question using your existing genealogy DNA results.
-
Yes. This package analyses existing genealogy DNA results. Purchasing a test kit, collecting a sample and laboratory processing are not included.
If you have not tested yet, you can enquire about which approach might suit your family-history question before booking this service.
-
Share the testing company you used, the question you want to explore and any relevant family-tree information or previous research. Details of particular matches you are curious about are also helpful.
The information and access needed for your project are confirmed before work begins. Please do not send account passwords or raw DNA files with your initial enquiry.
-
Only with the test-taker’s informed permission or appropriate authority to act on their behalf. Permission and access arrangements must be confirmed before their results are reviewed.
Being related to someone does not automatically authorise access to their DNA information.
-
Sometimes the combined evidence supports a particular relationship. In other cases, the amount of shared DNA is compatible with several possibilities.
Shared matches, family trees and historical records help assess those possibilities. Your analysis explains what the evidence supports, what remains uncertain and which further comparisons or records could clarify the connection.
-
The analysis may identify promising leads or clarify what an investigation would require, but it does not guarantee identification of a particular relative.
An extended search for an unknown parent or a complex family connection is outside this fixed package. If further investigation is appropriate, its scope and cost are discussed separately before additional work begins.
-
The one-hour consultation gives you time to work through your written analysis, ask questions and understand how the findings relate to your research.
Technical terms are explained in plain language, and the recommended next steps are discussed so you know which leads to prioritise.
-
Your analysis will explain the limitations of the available results and whether further documentary research, additional comparisons or waiting for new matches offers the most sensible next step.
A recommendation to pause can be more useful than pursuing a connection the current evidence does not support. Any suggestion that another relative tests should be discussed with them and depends on their informed agreement.
-
Yes. DNA results can reveal relationships that differ from an existing family tree or what relatives have understood about their family.
Any known concerns should be raised before work begins so the scope and approach can be discussed sensitively. Possible relationships are not presented as established facts without sufficient supporting evidence.
-
No. This service is for genealogy and family-history purposes. It does not interpret health risks, diagnose conditions or provide legally recognised proof of parentage.
-
Your results and family information are used for the agreed project and are not published or used for marketing without separate permission. Information about living people is handled with particular care.
Any proposed sharing of results with another service or contact with a DNA match requires separate discussion and permission.
-
Yes. Your written analysis provides recommendations you can pursue independently, or you can enquire about further assistance.
Any additional analysis, documentary research or consultation is separately scoped and priced for your approval before work begins.
