A photograph captures an expression. A recording lets you hear the laugh that followed. Home videos and audio recordings preserve movement, voices, music and the ordinary sounds of a time and place. Yet they can sit unheard and unseen for years because the player has broken, the cables no longer fit or nobody knows how to get them working.

Digitisation makes those recordings accessible again. Watch a childhood birthday, hear a loved one telling a story or revisit a performance you thought you could no longer play. Digital files are easier to share, use in a personal film or gift, and back up separately from the original tapes or discs.

Breadcrumbs transfers video and audio with an approach suited to the recording format and condition. Your material is assessed before work begins, with any playback problems or need for additional treatment discussed as part of the quote. You receive digital files and your originals back, ready to reconnect with recordings that deserve more than a place in storage.

Files Ready to Play

Video recordings are supplied as MP4 files for convenient viewing and sharing. Audio-only transfers include WAV master files alongside smaller MP3 copies for everyday listening.

Checked and Clearly Organised

Transfers are checked for capture and playback problems, with files named to match your supplied labels and grouped by tape, record or disc. Custom titles, detailed track separation and more extensive organisation can be quoted separately.

Your Recording, Preserved

Standard transfer preserves the recording rather than reshaping it into an edited production. Existing picture and sound limitations may remain. Enhancement, noise reduction and editing are separate options, with any additional work agreed beforehand.

Private Delivery, Originals Returned

Download your files through a private link available for 28 days, with instructions for saving and backing them up. Your tapes, records and discs are returned through the agreed collection or delivery arrangement. USB storage and postage are available at additional cost.

Additional Services

Optional enhancement, restoration, preservation, organisation and access services are available.

  • Make older recordings easier to watch and listen to. treatments can reduce picture noise, improve colour and stability, or reduce unwanted audio noise and balance sound levels.

    Your original transfer is retained, with the enhanced version supplied separately. Results depend on the recording’s condition and quality. Enhancement cannot guarantee the recovery of missing detail or unintelligible speech, and suitability is assessed before work begins.

  • Make your recordings easier to navigate and their contents easier to find. Beyond the filenames and folders included with your transfer, additional services include descriptive titles, collection indexes and more detailed organisation using information supplied by you.

    Spoken recordings can also be transcribed into text, making interviews, recollections and recorded discussions easier to read, search and reference. Transcription suitability is assessed from the clarity of the recording.

    Collection organisation, custom naming and indexes: $65 per hour.
    Audio and video transcription: $65 per recorded hour.
    Protective storage and rehousing: individually quoted, including materials and fitting.
